What is a Voucher?
A voucher is basically a record that something has been paid, received, or, in effect, vouched for. It is usually a liability, which is something that has not been paid yet but needs to be paid. Vouchers can also be the proof of purchase, such as a receipt or document that shows what the item is and how much it costs.
In business, a voucher is the proof that somebody bought a good or service from the provider. The provider would hold the voucher and the buyer would need to know and see the voucher just in case an issue came up with ownership or purchase of that good or service.
Travel vouchers are another example of widely used vouchers. Travel vouchers tell someone who wants to know how much was spent on travel and how much money is yet to be paid. Once again, a voucher is a piece of proof that shows open liabilities that need to be paid.
Vouchers can also be used by hotels who are going to give away a free night to guests. In this case, the guests would hold the voucher as proof that the hotel owes them a night of stay. Vouchers are not very difficult to understand once you figure out just exactly what they are and how to use them.
